Farmers Insurance Open January 24th – 27th, 2013

Combine last year’s FedEx Cup Champion (who is also the defending champion of this event), a guy by the name of Tiger who has won this event 6-times, and a lefty who has 3 Farmers Insurance Open trophies and you end up with one heck of a shootout for the 2013 Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines in California.

Tiger Woods, a 6-time winner of the Farmers, steps foot on US soil for his first PGA TOUR event since the Tour Championship presented by Coca-Cola in September 2012.  There is no doubt that Tiger can dominate at Torrey Pines, but his game is certainly in question after what we saw out of him in Abu Dhabi last week, where he failed to make the cut.

Mickelson hasn’t won here in a while, but the 3-time winner at Torrey Pines has 10 top-10 finishes in all 23 appearances at this long track.  The Torrey Pines South course, where some players will play in Rounds 1 & 2 (all will play in Rounds 3 & 4), measures 7,698 yards and is one of the longest par-72 tracks on TOUR.

Brandt Snedeker is no stranger to Torrey Pines as he notched his first (of two) PGA TOUR wins here last year after the infamous triple-bogey blowup hole by Kyle Stanley.  Snedeker went on to win the 2012 FedEx Cup Championship and still ranks as one of the best putters on TOUR today.

Some say that Torrey Pines South Course is about survival and skill.  The course has ranked inside the top-10 most difficult fairways to find off the tee box in each of the last four years.
