Product Review: Birdieball ®
What is Birdieball®?
BirdieBall ® by Birdie Ball Inc. is one of the most outstanding new golf training tools to hit the market. Voted PGA Product of the Year in Orlando, this training aid allows you to practice your full swing, half swing, and short swing in small, confined areas. Described by the manufacturer as “a limited flight practice golf ball without limited feel,” the Birdieball ® only flies 40 yards, enabling you to have your own backyard driving range. The unique design of the cylinder-shaped BirdieBall ® even allows you to play draws and fades, giving the product a real-ball feel. Because the cylinder is hollow, it also produces a distinct turbine-type sound that increases with the amount of backspin employed. This provides a nice audible indication when practicing your ball spin.
The product itself is also extremely durable (our team tested it with full swing woods and even a driver with little or no resulting damage). In comparison, BirdieBall ® neither looked, nor felt anything like traditional practice “waffle” type golf balls that provide almost no realistic feel and often break after just a few hits.
What’s in the box?
The Birdieball ® superset comes with a StrikePad, target with flag (BirdieTarget), and a set of 12 Birdieballs ® (4 sets of colors for competitive play). Rated “Best Gift” by Readers Digest, this small box of easily storable golf training tools will fit almost anywhere.
The BirdieTarget is easily collapsible allowing you to store it in the large pocket of your golf bag with the Birdieballs ®. The target also comes with a small spike to anchor the device to the ground, thus preventing it from tipping over or blowing away. The StrikePad is also quite useful in that it protects your yard, carpet, or any other outdoor/indoor surface from club damage. The StrikePad also provides helpful visual swing cues to help improve accuracy of your swing path.
Our team loved testing the Birdieball ® at our practice facility in New Jersey. We set up a couple of targets and tested the durability of the product. After hours of iron target practice with 10 foot to 40 yards shots, we used a 3 wood to smack the Birdieball ® around a bit. With only some minor scuff marks, the Birdieball ® withstood any defection, crack or break. One of our staff members swears that they already took strokes off their game after 2 weeks of practicing with Birdieball ®.
Perhaps our favorite part of using the Birdieball ® was that it never felt like “just another practice tool.” Striking the Birdieball ® was consistently challenging and fun, and quickly lent itself to impromptu competitions between our team members. The BirdieTargets can even be laid out around your yard or park to create scaled down golf holes for challenges between friend and family members.

The Birdieball ® Company makes other great training tools such as real feel practice greens, turf mats instead of the StrikePads for a more authentic feel, and even clubs. Turn your basement into a training facility during the cold weather or give that special golfer in your life a great holiday gift to practice their game.
