We were all smiles to see our fantasy prediction pick Dustin Johnson in the mix again this week, but for the second straight week, DJ came up just short, going back-to-back with 2nd place finishes.  Although we missed our boarding of the Bubba train this week, DJ still managed to grab us $723,600 in winnings and our total of 6 out of 7 players made the cut, combining for total purse winnings of  $904,267. Overall, not a bad fantasy week…

Bubba Watson hasn’t made a trip to the winner’s circle since his memorable 2013 victory at the Masters.  The southern lefty’s long drives and unique personality consistently make him a crowd favorite on TOUR, and the win this week catapulted him up the FedExCup leaderboard 16 places to 5th.

Watson came in with a 64 in each of the final two rounds which was enough to snap his two-year winless streak and bring home 5th PGA TOUR win. Bubba’s performance this week had an air redemption about it, perhaps it was his way of coming back from a sloppy finish at the WM Phoenix Open a couple weeks prior.

Watson embraced his wife and son, Caleb, on the 18th green after sinking his final birdie putt. When asked about his round Watson said, “The whole year is about rejoicing. I’m thinking about how blessed I am to be playing on the PGA TOUR. Everything is just gravy right now.”

Runner up Dustin Johnson continues to impress as well.  Coming off last week’s T-2 at Pebble Beach, DJ found himself sitting in the clubhouse waiting for a potential playoff. Although he managed to put together a bogey-free fourth round, a few missed scoring opportunities lead him to fall just short of the victorious Bubba.  But when it comes to points, second place finishes sure do add-up, and DJ is sitting pretty this year with a win and a total of five Top-11 finishes in just six events. After completion of this week’s Northern Trust Open, Dustin now sits in 2nd place on the FedExCup points leaderboard.

This week we’re glad we stepped away from some of the obvious picks, like Justin Rose and Matt Kuchar, both of who incidently were strongly favored in Vegas odds.  Neither would have gotten you much in regards to fantasy money this week as Rose finished T45 and Kuchar missed the cut.

The TOUR heads back to Arizona this week for the WGC Accenture Match Play Championship where the world’s top 64 players will meet in the desert for a match play bracket-style tournament.  Check back for more coverage along with a full preview in our regular Fantasy Odds and Predictions segment later this week.
