In his first event of the 2013 season, Dustin Johnson picked up a victory that catapulted him to No. 12 in the Official World Golf Rankings. His three shot victory at the 2013 WGC –HSBC Champions mirrored his early 2013 victory at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions in Hawaii in January.  Now with 8 PGA TOUR wins, and a great looking girlfriend, Dustin is in prime position to make a strong FedExCup push as this win moved him to 3rd on the standings with 550 points.

DJ went 5 under in his last 6 holes on Sunday which slammed the door on Ian Poulter, who was in contention to defend his title.   Johnson drilled an eagle on the short par-4 16th to shoot 6-under 66 on the day and claim the trophy.

Rory McIlroy, who finished tied for 6th, looked promising once again and has given the golf world a sign of hope that the youngster will turn things around and potentially return to a level of dominance not seen since 2012.  Rory claimed that this tournament was a ‘make-or-break’ event for him, indicating that he needed to have a good showing in this event to qualify for the Race to Dubai season-ending event.  Overall, McIlroy looked looked much sharper in Shanghai, and his short game has improved ten-fold.

The TOUR continues this week with the 2013 McGladrey Classic at Seaside Course in Georgia.  Last year’s winner Tommy ‘two-gloves’ Gainey will be in the field to attempt to reclaim his title.   Check back for our fantasy predictions segment later this week to see who we think will come out ahead of the field.
