Fathers Day Gift Ideas for Golfers No Matter Your Budget 2

Stumped on what to get dad this year for Father’s Day?  Well, you could pick him up another tie or “World’s Best Dad” coffee mug, but if dad (or grandpa, or even your boss) is a golfer, you’re in luck.  Like so many of us, he likes the smell of fresh cut fairways, the sound of a well-struck shot, and the taste of a cold beverage following the round.  Perhaps even more important to your shopping experience is the fact that if he’s a golfer you’ve just opened up a world of possibilities when it comes to amazing gifts.

So, to help you in the ideas department, here is a list of suggestions for the golfing dad in your life.

Club Headcovers

Now here’s a gift that allows you to have a little fun while at the same time capturing a bit of “dad’s” personality!  Is dad a Star Wars nut?  Why not get him a Darth Vader headcover?  Is your boss a dog lover?  How about scoring him a plush headcover replica of his favorite dog breed!

From college mascots to patriotic flags, the options for headcovers out there are endless, and every one of them makes for a fun conversation on and off the course.

Custom Club Fitting

Having great golf clubs are one thing; but playing golf with the right equipment will really help your game and that is what happens at a custom club fitting (and it doesn’t have to be expensive!).  A custom club fitting takes into account everything that is unique to that individual—height, arm length, swing speed, ball flight, spin rates—and determines how to optimize the performance of the golf swing with proper equipment.

Whether dad needs new equipment or modification to his current set of clubs, following a proper club fitting session, he can go into his next round with clubs that are going to work the best for him.

Personalized Golf Balls

Whether he’s the guy you’re shopping for is great golfer or a not so great golfer, everyone still needs golf balls to play the game.  And your dad might as well play with his favorite saying, monogram or nickname on his personalized golf balls.

If you really want to have fun with this gift, personalize his golf balls with a snappy one-liner for your dad so he gets a good chuckle (and remembers your gift) every time he looks at his golf ball (e.g. “I’m lost too”; “Lost ball, please return to …”; “If found, please call …”).  Personalized golf balls always make a great gift and add a personal touch from the giver.

Wireless Speakers

With more and more golfers hitting “Play” when they play, a Bluetooth wireless speaker may be the perfect gift for dad to enjoy his next round of golf (or practice range session) while listening to his favorite playlist.  If dad likes to keep his music to himself some new Powerbeats ear buds are a great idea or if he’s more into “sharing” a speaker to ride along in the cart will allow him to add some tunes to his round.

If your dad is completely opposed to listening to music while playing golf, wireless speakers still make a great gift that he can use them just about anywhere else.

Golf Instruction

Taking golf lessons can drastically improve your game and help you have greater confidence, and fun, on the golf course.  That said, there are three primary types of instruction—private lessons, group lessons and clinics.

In a private lesson the student is working directly with the instructor in a one-on-one environment, providing the greatest amount of individual attention from the instructor.  A group setting may provide for a more comfortable learning environment; but will also move at the group’s pace and a single instructor will provide attention to multiple students.  A clinic is typically offered at a specific time and usually focuses on a single topic, such as chipping, putting or bunker play.

The big difference between a clinic and a lesson is that during a clinic, you are watching the instructor execute certain shots, rather than you actually hitting the shot yourself like you would be doing in a lesson.  A single lesson or clinic may be as little as $15 for a short session, while a comprehensive lesson package or individual plan will increase in price based on length and needs.

So if it’s lessons you’re after the best bet would be to start by calling your local golf course pro shop and asking what types are offered.  Most will allow you to purchase a gift certificate to be given as a gift.

Push Cart

Your dad may have grown up carrying his own golf bag and still may prefer to throw the straps over his shoulders while walking during a round, but according to recent studies there may be greater benefits of using a push cart than carrying a golf bag.

According to Dr. Neil Wolkodoff from the Colorado Center for Health and Sports Science, “the golf swing is tough on the back and if you can use a push cart and keep one more stress away from the back that’s a great thing.”  Push carts also provide a nice benefit on golf courses with hills and takes significant stress off of the core muscles which are otherwise used when carrying a bag.  Plus, your dad probably reminds you (quite often) that he isn’t getting any younger, so if he wants to play golf even longer, a push cart would be a great gift idea.

Rangefinder

One of the most popular golf gadgets in recent years is the laser rangefinder.  No, this device won’t give you tips on how to improve your swing, but it will give you the exact distance to the hole which will help dad’s game quite a bit.

Whether you clip it to your bag or carry it in a pocket, rangefinders can come in various shapes and sizes and offer different features that can suit any budget.  So be sure to shop around and pick one that’s in your gift giving budget.

Golf Trip

A golf trip may be the ultimate gift for dad on Father’s Day, plus it can be a great “boomerang gift” if the gift giver (in this case you!) tags along.  Whether it’s a trip that can be done on a single gas tank or a more exuberant trip requiring air travel and overnight stays; a planning a golf trip of any type will allow him to experience one of his favorite hobbies in a new area and setting.

Mix in some quality time with his golf-playing children/family/buddies and this will sure to be a trip (and gift) to remember.
