Golf Holiday Gift Guide
Having trouble deciding what gift to get get your sibling, friend, or boss this holiday season?
If he or she is a golfer, then you’re in luck! No matter what type of golfer you’re shopping for, we have the holiday gift ideas to make everybody wish you were their Secret Santa this year!
So without further adieu, we present our most comprehensive golf holiday gift guide to date.
For The “Gamer” Golfers
Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 14 is the latest in the long legacy of EA Sports Tiger Woods series console games. With hyper-realistic game play and course graphics will leave you drooling, this one is sure to be a hit for any golfers out there with a PS3 or Xbox 360. For just a few bucks more you can even spring for the Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 14 Masters Historic Edition which lets you play Augusta National along side Bobby Jones as you go back in time to 1934. This is about as close to actually playing Augusta National as 99.99% of golfers will ever get, so we’re quite happy with how much attention to detail EA Sports has included in this one.
For the more mobile gamers, you may want to consider an iTunes Gift Card which you can purchase in just about any denomination and will allow the receiver to download any of the great mobile golf games available in the App Store (a few of our favorites include Tiger Woods PGA TOUR® 12 and Mini Golf 3D).
For the “Backyard Hero” Golfers
Know somebody who always seems to be chipping around their back yard? You can usually spot their yard a mile away because all the divots make their lawn look like the fairway after the fourth round of the US Open. For this active group of golfers we recommend the BirdieBall (check out our full Birdieball product review here).
For around fifty bucks the BirdieBall comes with a dozen practice “balls” (they’re actually shaped like hollow tubes which effectively simulate gall ball feel and spin while reducing how far they fly) and a Strikepad (divot problem solved!).
The BirdieBall system is excellent for practicing your short game but the target baskets it comes with also help to make it a fun backyard game. Just set these targets up at your next family get together and let the competitions begin.
For Your Boss
Tired of getting your boss the same old bottle of wine, desk nameplate, or some other tired old office novelty gift each year (chances are your boss is). This year, why not mix it up and buy him a round of golf at his favorite course. If the greens fees are too steep get everyone in the office to pitch in and buy him or her a foursome.
You can score a nice discount at most courses by using our Online Tee Time System or you can just call around and look for a local deal. Either way, try to book a week day if you can get away with it. Getting your boss out of the office for a bit is a gift you can both enjoy!
For the “Globetrotter” Golfers
Know any golfers who always seem to be on the road? Whether they travel for business or pleasure chances are they’re lugging their golf clubs around countless airports, bus terminals, and/or train stations, which is rarely an enjoyable experience.
For these guys and gals we recommend getting them a travel golf bag to protect their prize golf possessions. Good travel golf bags usually range in price from anywhere around $65 to $250 and most if not all come with wheels and a hard outer shell to keep your golf equipment protected and mobile. Check out our recent Top 3 Golf Travel Bags article for three excellent suggestions in each of the aforementioned price ranges.
For the “Gadget Lover” Golfers
The techie who loves to play golf is an interesting combination. Lucky for you, there’s is no shortage of gift ideas for the gadget lovers looking to improve their golf game. From golf GPS units, to laser rangefinders, the amount of golf tech gadgets on the market is staggering. Just pick one based on your budget and you’ll be all set.
The only trouble is that this breed of golfers tend to be the ones that already have everything, making them actually a bit more difficult to buy for than we previously thought. But fear not, we have a suggestion for you that brand new to the market this year and guaranteed to be a hit with your techie golf buddies….introducing the SwingTip.
The SwingTip is a simple device that attaches onto any golf club and connects wirelessly (via Bluetooth) to the user’s smartphone. Read our full SwingTip review from earlier this year for more details on how it works.
The unit itself costs around 100 bucks and the corresponding app is available for free download from the App Store.
For the “Bookworm” Golfers
Book always make excellent gifts. They’re rarely expensive, they’re countless options for every conceivable topic, and they’re easy to gift wrap (bonus!). With that said, there are currently over 27,000 book titles relating to golf on Amazon, so where do we start?
With so many books to choose from we could easily spin off into a tangent here so instead we’ll keep it simple with the following list of our staff’s favorite picks:

For Your “Significant Other” Golfer

Another excellent gift idea is the new OptiShot Infrared Home or Office Golf Simulator can turn any grumpy, snow-bound golfer, back into his or her normal summertime cheery self. Pick it up on sites like Amazon for about $399.99 (Golfsmith also carries the OptiShot for $399.99 and is currently offering a free $50 gift card with purchase).
For the “Beginner” Golfer
Know someone who’s just starting out on their golf adventure? Why not buy them a golf lesson or two? You can find lessons with local pros available at many places like driving ranges, golf stores, golf courses, etc. Lessons are a great way for new golfers to start off on the right foot by developing their swing properly.
Check out our recent article on what to expect from your first golf lesson for more on this.
