Tournament Preview: The Frys.com Open (Oct 11-14th)
As the 2012 PGA Tour season winds down, the remaining players looking to grab a spot in the top 125 to ensure a Tour card for 2013 will square off at CordeValle Golf Club in Santa Clara County, California this week.
The beautiful Robert Trent Jones Jr. designed track measures 7,368 yards and the sixth hole plays as a 480-yard par 4 for the field of 132 (the tee is moved back to a 540-yard par 5 when the TOUR isn’t in town). The players’ goal this week is similar to TPC Summerlin in Las Vegas last week; that is, an aggressive strategy with strong focus on putting.
The weather conditions are expected to be magnificent, certainly the type of weather you’d love to have on a family vacation. With rising temperatures in the low 80s and clear skies with little wind, the players should have some healthy scores out there.
As for the field, keep your eye on Bud Cauley this week. He has heated up lately and has 4 top 10s since July which included 3 top 5s. He finished 3rd at the Frys.com Open last year and has the momentum to carry forward. You can’t rule out some of the veterans like Vijay and Ernie. These guys can definitely make a push up the leaderboard along with last week’s hot hitters like Jonas Blixt, Jimmy Walker and even European Ryder Cup team member, Nicolas Colsaerts.
