Walking in Memphis: Dustin Johnson Returns to the Tour in Style

So we can’t completely pat ourselves on the back for picking Dustin to win on Sunday morning entering the final round T4 at 5-under, but we loved what we saw from the soon-to-be 28 year old in the final two rounds of the FedEx St. Jude’s Classic.

With the final tune-up before golf’s next biggest stage, The U.S Open, Johnson wasn’t even thinking about the big event saying, “I wasn’t even worried about the Open…I was worried about winning the FedEx. Next is a whole different week.”

His 4-under 66 held off John Merrick, Ryan Palmer, and the comeback kid, Rory McIlroy.  He finished with four birdies and a bogey, turning in two straight birdies on Nos. 16 and 17 to bounce him to the top of the leader board.

McIlroy missed 3 straight cuts coming into this event, but like we said during our tournament preview, you can’t count this kid out yet.  Appearing to have found his swing again, we wouldn’t write him off for the Open just yet, but we’re not anticipating him coming out on top either.

With his 6th PGA Tour victory, Dustin Johnson has moved up 58 spots to sit at 18th in the Fed Ex Cup Standings and 10th on the World Golf Ranking. These six career wins give him the most of any of the tour players in their 20s. He’ll take home a cool $1 million as he heads over to Olympic Club in San Francisco to prep for the U.S. Open.

Check back on Wednesday June 13 for our U.S. Open Preview and Picks.
