John Daly Wins $150,000 for Waking Up on Thursday

In an interview with USA Today yesterday, John Daly opened up about his PGA career and personal life, and fighting a few demons along the way.

And in a way only John Daly can, he tells of a bet Fuzzy Zoeller made with him during the par-3 contest at Augusta.

“I think it was Tuesday morning and we played nine holes and went to T-Bonz (restaurant) and had some lunch,’’ he recalled. “Next thing I know, we were in the same clothes playing Wednesday at 7:30 in the morning and the par-3 tournament. We stayed through the whole nine (holes), drinking, having a good time and eating.

“Fuzzy said, ‘I got 150 grand you’re never going to make it to 50.’ ”

Yesterday morning, the 1991 PGA Champion awoke, probably lit a smoke, and began his 50th year on Earth with a celebratory tweet:

However, staying true to gambler etiquette, Daly said he won’t force Zoeller to make good on the $150,000 bet since the two of them never made it official with a handshake.

“So I won’t hold him up to it,’’ Daly said. “I’ll just have him give me a free bottle of his vodka. That’s about it.”
