It was a hot day in Cromwell, CT at TPC River Highlands yesterday as the Traveler’s Championship looked to be concluding in the favor of 2012 Masters winner, Bubba Watson. Watson had a 1-shot lead over Ken Duke going into the par-3 16th when his tee shot came up a few feet short and landed in the water hazard just before the green.  His 3rd shot from the drop zone carried past the green, after which Bubba gave caddie Ted Scott an earful:

After cooling off Bubba later tweeted about the incident saying: “Picked the wrong club on the 16th hole. But it was still a great week. Thanks to the fans & Travelers for another great tourney!”

Ken Duke saw his opportunity to cash in after Bubba’s triple on 16 as he became the new leader with a few holes to go.  What was going to be a slam dunk for Duke changed immediately after Chris Stroud chipped in for birdie on the 72nd hole to force a playoff.

Duke and Stroud tied for par on the first playoff hole and carted back to the tee box to try it again. After both sending a couple of monster 300+ yard drives, Duke stuck his 110 yard wedge a foot from the hole.  Stroud came up a bit longer and missed his birdie his birdie putt.  Duke sunk his to win the 2013 Travelers Championship, giving the 44 year old his first PGA TOUR win.
