Ben Martin In Tears After Collapse At The Corales Puntacana Championship
Ben Martin held the lead at the Corales Puntacana Championship after 18, 36, and 54 holes and was in good shape to win his second PGA TOUR event until the back nine on Sunday.
Martin missed a putt on the 72nd hole, which would’ve put him into a playoff with eventual champion Chad Ramey. After the round, Martin couldn’t hold back tears after his disappointing finish to the week.

“It was great man. It was great; I loved every minute of it,” said Martin’s caddie to try and console him during the interview.
Martin said:
“That was obviously difficult. I’ve won out here before, I’ve won on the Korn Ferry, runner-up in the US Amateur, but I guess I wanted this one a lot more… I don’t think I’ve ever been emotional about golf, so this is a first. To me that’s a good thing, it means I competed hard and it obviously stung. I hit two good shots into 18. To have such a good opportunity and not capitalize is the most difficult part. I wrote down this morning, I was nervous going into the day not being in this position for a while, but ultimately, however, I hit the golf shots today, nothing I really care about in life is gonna change.”
This would’ve been Martin’s second win on the PGA TOUR and first since 2014. It’s a grind out there for these guys, especially those who aren’t in the top 50 players in the world.
It’s nice to see that golfers still care and can be emotional about how much a tournament really means to them.
