Why Has TPC Southwind Removed DJ’s Plaque?

We are repeatedly warned about altering the past. In the current climate of cancel culture, erasing one’s past achievements because of something they have said or done, smearing someone’s reputation for political gain – we didn’t expect to see something like this happen in sport.

Well, it looks as if Dustin Johnson has suffered a minor loss after reports that a plaque commemorating his holed-out 9 iron to secure the FedEx Cup in 2018 has been removed by TPC Southwind. The plaque was said to have been removed around May this year.

DJ committed to the rival Tour and signed with LIV by the 31st of May. The timing is suspect, with the explanation from the course being that the plaque was blocking the addition of some new fairway bunkers on the course. I’d expect the plaque to be replaced if possible, as the shot was so incredible, a walk-off holed-out eagle that bagged DJ the #1 spot in the world and his 18th Tour title.

DJ has been removed from the money list on the PGA Tour, and as one of the first big names to defect to the Tour, was one of the hardest hits to take for the PGA. Regardless of the actual reasoning behind the removal or decision not to replace the plaque after construction – I imagine the PGA Tour will not be too concerned about failing to commemorate a player who has made the decision to play his golf on their rival Tour.
