Rory McIlroy Spotted with Scotty Cameron Putter, Plus Other Changes to Bag

Over the past two months, Rory McIlroy proved that he is indeed human like the rest of us.

After a year-long hot streak that included near-misses at all four Majors, a FedExCup title, the season-long DP World Tour championship, four wins, and a return to the No. 1 spot in the Official World Golf Ranking, McIlroy has come down to earth a bit.

After finishing outside the top 10 at TPC Scottsdale and Riviera in February, he was runner-up at the Arnold Palmer Invitational but missed the cut at THE PLAYERS Championship.

That has led to a significant change in the Northern Irishman’s bag for this week’s WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play and going into major season.

McIlroy played a practice round at Austin Country Club on Tuesday with a Scotty Cameron Tour-Only 009-M blade putter by Titleist. It replaces the TaylorMade Spider X mallet he’s been using.

He’s currently ranking 173^rd in Strokes Gained: Putting, which can easily be the difference between more top-10 finishes at the upcoming Majors instead of snapping his winless streak of nearly 10 years in golf’s grandest events.

Turns out, McIlroy used the putter during two practice rounds at Augusta National, so even though The Masters is just two weeks away, it sounds like McIlroy will be confident using it in Augusta.

McIlroy is also making some other club switches for the Match Play event this week but is staying in the TaylorMade family for those.

These changes include a Sealth 2 Plus 5-wood, MG3 Ray 54-degree wedge, and a Fujikura Ventus Blue TR 6 X shaft on his Stealth 2 driver.
