Jack Nicklaus & Rory McIlroy Share A Moment After Rory’s Final Round Collapse
Jack Nicklaus was waiting by the 18th green in traditional fashion – dishing out handshakes to those featured on Sunday.
We’ve seen him embrace Tiger here next to this 18th green several times, as well as more recent winners of the event like Jon Rahm and Patrick Cantlay.
Today, Jack shook Rory’s hand after he jogged off the 18th – after signing for a 75. The round put him in a tie for 7th at an event he was leading through 54 holes. The inability to get it done on a Sunday is fast becoming an association with Rory – and despite some stellar golf, he still makes the game too difficult from easy spots. To use a term from tennis – the unforced errors figure would be through the roof.
We got an insight into Jack’s brief words to Rory – and he was heard clearly saying, ‘You and me need to sit down and talk sometime.’

McIlroy was seen heading straight to the range after his round.
Whatever you think of him, he’s got unbelievable talent – and when he doesn’t win, it always seems like he’s underperformed in some way – that’s how good he is.
Jack can perhaps tap into whatever is stopping Rory get over the line on Sunday.
