Rory McIlroy exploded on Justin Thomas’s caddie Jim “Bones” Mackay following the Saturday session of the Ryder Cup in Rome, Italy, after controversy struck the Americans and the Europeans.

The controversy was stemming from the rumors of Patrick Cantlay’s distress regarding the lack of payment for players at the Ryder Cup. Reports stated that Cantlay was frustrated with players not receiving financial compensation for playing at the tournament and thus refused to wear a Team USA hat during his play at the Ryder Cup.

After Cantlay sunk three clutch putts to give the Americans a sliver of a chance heading into Sunday Singles, his caddie Joe LaCava seemed to jaw at members of the European team, much to the chagrin of Rory McIlroy, who was lining up a putt.

LaCava and the Europeans were caught in a confrontation following the conclusion of the round:

However, tensions leaked over, and McIlroy was seen venting his frustrations to Jim “Bones” MacKay in what was far from a civil conversation between the two:

The Europeans are sitting with a comfortable lead at 10.5 to 5.5 over the Americans, but the passion of this tournament has produced incredible matchups heading into Sunday Singles.

Only time will tell what happens with this emotional confrontation between the two.
