Travis Mathew Pokes Fun at Rory McIlroy with New Giveaway

Travis Mathew really pushed the limits with this one.

Coming less than a week after his heartbreaking miss on a five-foot breaking putt, Rory McIlroy seemed to have some fun poked at him by apparel brand Travis Mathew in a new giveaway on Instagram.

The brand posted a video of a putt similar to McIlroy’s at the Old Course at St. Andrews, stating:

“Five-foot, downhill, breaking putt to win a trip to @thehomeofgolf, are you making it?

People caught on pretty quickly, stating things like, “You just asked for thousands of comments of Rory.” So far, there were about 25 comments tagging McIlroy.

Looking for his first Major Championship win in ten years, McIlroy had a left-to-right breaking putt that was only five feet. However, the break, and likely the nerves, pushed McIlroy to overthink the stroke, which ended up in a push as he missed the putt and eventually finished second at last week’s U.S. Open:

It was a heartbreaking loss for McIlroy, who eventually pulled himself from this week’s Traveler’s Championship and pledged to return to the golf course when the game officially heads back to Europe for the Genesis Scottish Open and The Open Championship.
