Jon Rahm’s Olympic Collapse Was Choke On Par with McIlroy at U.S. Open: Chamblee

Brandel Chamblee left no holds barred when he discussed Jon Rahm’s performance during the final round of the Men’s Stroke Play at the Olympics, where the Spaniard had a sizeable lead only to let it slip and miss the podium altogether.

Chamblee said Rahm’s slip-up was as bad as Rory McIlroy’s at the U.S. Open this year.

Rahm had a multiple-shot lead as he entered the back nine but could not find his footing as he attempted to bring home a gold medal and his second win in as many weeks after winning LIV Golf UK last week.

However, Rahm simply could not find it as his ball-striking and overall play faltered. He allowed Tommy Fleetwood to catch up to him, and then Scottie Scheffler, who eventually took home the gold.

Rahm did not medal at the Olympics, which, considering his position during the final round, was astounding. Brandel Chamblee did not hold back:

“I’m gonna put that down as one of the biggest collapses, chokes of the year. Right up there with Rory McIlroy at the U.S. Open.”

McIlroy’s collapse was for a Major, and his first Major win in ten years. Visibly shaken by the result, Rory stepped away from golf for nearly a month before coming back. Rahm is dealing with plenty off the course as his wife is going through a difficult pregnancy and is on bed rest, the Spaniard and two-time Major Champion admitted.

This one might hurt for a while.
