Well that didn’t take long.

After day one of the President’s Cup, the International Team finds themselves in quite the hole, winning just one of the five matches on Wednesday.

“A tough day for us,” International Team Captain, Nick Price, said.  “Having said that, we are only five points into 30.  We still have another 25 points left out there.  So we’ve got a long way to go, and that’s what I told my team. Just to keep their chins up and do the best they can tomorrow.”

Bubba Watson and J.B. Holmes set the tone for the Americans right out of the gate.  The “Elementary” pair raced out to a three-up lead after birdies on three of the first five holes.

The duo never looked back and closed out their match with two more birdies on fifteen and sixteen.

Finally, with the International Team already reeling, the anchor team of Dustin Johnson and Jordan Speith supplied the day one dagger by making quick work of Marc Leishman and Danny Lee.  The number eight and number one world ranked players won four of the last six holes, winning the match 4 & 3.

The format now shifts to Four-ball for Thursday’s matches.  The Americans, with Dustin and Jordan scheduled to tee-off first, seem to be going in for the kill early.  The International Team, on the hand, are grasping for any kind of momentum possible.  Price has placed his only winning team from Wednesday, Louis Oosthuizen and Branden Grace, up against DJ and Speith.
