After leading from start to finish, Europe cruised to a 13 shot victory over Asia in the EurAsia Cup in Kuala Lumpur.

Darren Clarke’s team entered the final day of the competition with a six hole advantage, and a continuous strong performance in the singles matches allowed them to wrap up a 18½-5½ win.

Ian Poulter was the player to put Europe’s first point of the day on the board, for the third day running, but it was fellow Englishman Danny Willett who holed the winning put, still with eight matches still out on course.

Among Poulter and Willett, other singles victors were Andy Sullivan, Lee Westwood, Matthew Fitzpatrick and Chris Wood.

Also, Soren Kjeldsen, Victor Dubuisson and Kristoffer Broberg won their singles matches, while the only draw of the day came from Ross Fisher, who tied with Jeung Hun Wang

The only Europeans to lose on the final day were Bernd Wiesberger to to KT Kim, and Shane Lowry to Anirban Lahiri.

Captain Darren Clarke, will also captain Europe’s Ryder Cup team in Hazeltine in September, when they take on USA in the most anticipated event in the golfing calendar.

Talking to Sky Sports, he said: “Massive credit to them. This Asian team was a strong team and the way Europe has played this week, I’ve been very, very impressed.

“If your players don’t play and don’t perform then you can be the best captain in the whole world and you’re not going to win, so the credit doesn’t belong to me, it belongs to the players. The quality of the golf they have played this week has been brilliant.”
