John Daly Turns 50 and PGA Tour Champions Is Happy

John Daly turns 50 and the PGA Tour Champions and golfers everywhere are glad he made it.  This will give the PGA Tour Champions (or whatever they are calling the tour this week) a needed shot in the arm.  Unlike the entire buzz recently about Tiger Woods playing in the US Open, this is a sure thing and I look for the ratings to go up.

John Daly is a true personality simply because he is so real and golf fans love him for it.  By Tuesday of Masters Week it is estimated that he signed over 5000 items for fans while enjoying the company of his buddy, one of my favorite comedians, Ron White visiting in his RV.  The excitement around his RV that week is non-stop for eight days and he loves.

“Guys will roll out [of the Hooters] at 2 a.m., yelling for autographs,” and Daly obliges with a smile.

Some of his comments are why the fans love him so much. Talking about his about his then future wife he had this to say:

“She said, ‘I don’t like blonds and I don’t like golfers, but I do like fat boys.’ So I knew I had a chance.”

A lot of people can also relate to attitude on exercise:

“I tried but every time I worked out I threw up, and I thought to myself that you can get drunk and throw up, so it’s just not for me, I’d rather smoke, drink Diet Cokes and eat.”

Now that he has fooled a lot of his friends that never thought he would be alive at 50, much less excited to start a new chapter in his life lets see if we can just get his name near the top of the leader board.  If it happens the PGA Tour Champions may be stealing fans away for the PGA Tour.

Happy Birthday John and we are pulling for you and here is what we have to look forward to:

“I’ll never grow up.  I’m probably going to end up throwing clubs on the Champions Tour, I’m still gonna be me.  There’s no telling what sort of things I can do, but all I know is I’m enjoying life right now and my kids are healthy and things are pretty good.”

I do wonder about his kids though…
