Tiger Is Coming Back and Media Circus Is Gasing Up
After months of speculation about when Tiger Woods would return or even if he would return, we now know that he is officially returning to competitive golf. It was announced and confirmed that he has officially entered the 2016 US Open at Oakmont. One of my sources that are usually pretty reliable says he has already been up there to play a practice round. This is a good choice for him since he got beat by a shot the last time the US Open was played there back in 2007.
Of course all that did was stir up more speculation about him playing in other events. Since it would make no sense to bring his game out and put it on display at the US Open, the guessing game starts on where he will put it on display for the first time.
His agent Mark Steinberg has denied reports that Tiger is definitely playing in the Wells Fargo Championship in early May, but that may only mean he hasn’t made it official. Recently Golf Digest’s Tim Rosaforte suggested that he might. The only thing that bothers me about that is that he has staged a comeback there twice in the past two years and both have ended in missed cuts. Not a lot of good history there.
Rosaforte did have this to say on Morning Drive on the Golf Channel;
“Not saying it will, but at the same time, don’t be surprised if it does, this is the logical choice.”
I would say that since he is definitely playing in the US Open that he needs to start getting used to playing in competition again as soon as possible. One place I do expect him to play is at the Memorial since he has won five times there.
