Early Predictions for the PGA Championship

One thing I have never quite understood about predictions on who is going to win any given golf tournament is why The Psychic Power Network® doesn’t put out their list? It is always from guys in Las Vegas that are simply swagging it. SWAG is the acronym for Scientific Wild Ass Guess, they just happen to make a living doing it apparently.

The SWAG List

The SWAG List from Vegas is out with the odds on the favorites and their Top Five are as follows:

  1. Jason Day 8/1
  2. Rory McIlroy 8/1
  3. Dustin Johnson 9/1
  4. Jordan Spieth 10/1
  5. Henrik Stenson 16/1

Now, before you run out there and take a second mortgage on your house please keep in mind that of their Top Five picks last week for The Open only one made it into the Top Ten and the was Rory McIlroy.

One thing that I do find interesting is that in every major they always have Sergio Garcia in their Top Ten somewhere and next week is no different. They have in 10th spot at 30 to 1 along with Bubba Watson and Rickie Fowler. I have to admit that I agree with Bubba just because he is Bubba and you never know what might happen, but how many of you are going to run out and bet on Rickie Fowler even at 30 to 1?

I am also a little skeptical of Sergio next week since he is 0.00 for a bunch winning percentage in majors in his career over the last couple of decades.

My Top Three

I’ll go out on a limb and give my prediction.

     1. Dustin Johnson
     2. Rory McIlroy
     3. Jason Day

The PGA Championship always seems to favor long hitters and the course is playing over 7400 yards to a par 70. All three are long enough and all three are playing fairly well right now. After making these predictions it may well be Rich Berberian who is playing by virtue of winning the PGA Professional Championship.
