Trump to Award Tiger Woods the Presidential Medal of Freedom
Tiger Woods silenced his doubters when he completed what will most likely be considered the greatest comeback in sports history by winning The Masters last Sunday.
Woods’ fifth Green Jacket win captured the world’s attention, and came with some high praise from the White House. On Monday President Trump announced that he’ll be presenting Tiger with the Presidential medal of Freedom.
Spoke to @TigerWoods to congratulate him on the great victory he had in yesterday’s @TheMasters, & to inform him that because of his incredible Success & Comeback in Sports (Golf) and, more importantly, LIFE, I will be presenting him with the PRESIDENTIAL MEDAL OF FREEDOM!

The Presidential medal of Freedom is one of the highest civilian awards of the United States and is given for “An especially meritorious contribution to the security or national interests of the United States, world peace, cultural or other significant public or private endeavors.”

This is not the first time the Presidential medal of Freedom has been awarded to an athlete. Other notable Presidential medal of Freedom recipients include Jesse Owens, Muhammad Ali, Joe DiMaggio, and of course Arnie and Jack.
The award will be the fourth bestowed by Trump to a athlete since taking office, with the previous three being Babe Ruth (Posthumous), Roger Staubach, and Alan Page.
