Pure Dominance: Rory McIlroy Wins Again at the BMW Championship

Rory McIlroy - BMW ChampionshipHis win at the Deutsche Bank Championship last week was just the start as Rory McIlroy wins again at the BMW Championship.  Showing off his newly fine-tuned swing by dominating the star-studded field at Crooked Stick Sunday, Rory took the first back-to-back wins of his career.

“I don’t think I’m quite there yet,” the 23-year old “boy wonder” said.  “But I’m getting to that stage where I’m thinking, ‘This is what I should be doing. I should be lifting a trophy at the end of the week.’  It’s been great. The last four, five weeks have been incredible, some of the best golf that I’ve ever played.  I’m going to try and keep the run going for as long as possible.”  Rory is definitely back on top and his game is very much in tune.
The Pete Dye creation in Carmel, IN was soggy and was certainly challenging to the field’s elite pros.  McIlory put up a  5 under 67 to beat out the red-hot Lee Westwood and Phil Mickelson who both ended with at 18 under to finish T2.
Tiger Woods had another positive weekend showing as he took T-4 with Robert Garrigus at -17.  Woods was never really in the mix with Rory and Phil towards the end, but hung in there to finish in a good place to remain in 2nd position in FedEx points.
“Rory is putting on a show out there,” said Tiger.  “And we’ve got one more tournament.”
Phil Mickelson has been emerging lately and has looked impressive around the greens.  As a top five point holder, he has the chance to win the FedEx Cup with a victory at East Lake in Atlanta in two weeks.  As the No.1 seed in FedEx Cup standings, McIlroy is in good company with the other members of the top five. (Woods, Watney, Mickelson, and Snedeker).
The playoffs will be taking a week off before the Tour Championship week kicks off on September 20th in Atlanta. Check back next week for our in depth Tour Championship Preview.
