2012 Travelers Championship Recap: Leishman Grabs First Tour Victory, Bubba Falls Short.

Marc Leishman came charging up the leaderboard on Sunday shooting a bogey-free 62 to finish the 2012 Travelers Championship 14 under and winning his first PGA Tour Tournament.  Marc finished the day Saturday 6 strokes off the leader and about six players finishing behind him came into play in the final hours on Sunday.

One of those players, Charlie Hoffman, had a two shot lead going to the 17th tee.  Leishman, who already finished an hour and half prior to this, watched Hoffman’s play from the clubhouse.  Maybe pressure sank in, no pun intended, as Charlie put his tee shot into water the with his hybrid club, which led him to a double bogey.  This dropped him to a tie with Leishman.  After a miss on the 18th, Hoffman bogeyed the hole to finish 13 under…blowing 3 strokes on the last two holes.

Bubba Watson finished T2 with Hoffman at 13 under shooting a 65 Sunday, but his birdie free final five holes prevented him from moving up the board ay further.

Tim Clark was right there with Hoffman when he knocked his second shot on the par-5 13th on the green.  His eagle putt, which he barely touched, rolled past the hole and off of the green.  He ultimately fell short in this a must-birdie situation, parring the hole.  “I pretty much knew I was going to miss it, to be honest with you,” said Clark.  The win moves Clark 58 spots on the FedEx Cup Standings to 23rd.

Another notable, Hunter Mahan, had a career round with 9 under 61 to finish him T11 (-10).

Golficity’s Pick:  Matt Kuchar finished T8(-11).
