Just For Fun
5 Things Every Golf Man Cave Needs
What golf enthusiast wouldn’t want to turn a special room in their home or office into the ultimate golfer’s playhouse? A room where you can close the door, not worry about tee-times, fill your glass up with your favorite beverage and step up to the first tee at Pebble Beach without ever setting foot an airplane. That’s right, we’re talking about the ultimate golf man cave.
The cold weather golfers out there are always forced to stow away their gear and patiently wait 4-5 months before getting back to the sport they love. Sure we can fight to find last minute tee-time indoors at the local golf simulator in town which still forces you to battle the cold to get there but instead we’re hoping this article inspires you to pursue your passion for a true links-style man cave, a room we all would love to have and you cannot deny that.
Imagine a room in your home that you can slip into early before work or after the family is asleep for a quick 9 holes? Instead of poker or bowling night with your friends, it’s a round of 18 and some cold ones at your place.
Chances are you’ve seen the countless photos on social media of golf man caves built by everyone from the average-Joe golfer to the wealthy PGA pros. These guys have this secret paradise built into their own homes and believe us, you can rise to the top of your social ladder with one of these rooms. So, it’s time to clean out that unused room in the basement or the unused indoor garage that is holding storage. It’s time to make history and become an epic friend to all of your golf buddies.
Warning: We do not provide marriage counseling for the brave souls who run with this idea.
Here are the necessities with some add-ons to help guide you on the right path to golf freedom:
The Simulator
We’re not going to go into too much detail on how to actually build your in-home golf simulator here simply because we covered that topic in a recent step-by-step article on how to build an indoor golf simulator for under $2000.
Feel free to spend as much or as little as you can afford in order to customize a simulator for your man cave—remember you can always start small and upgrade over time. Although your cave doesn’t necessarily need a simulator, if money is no option and you have the space, it is definitely the first thing you should install. If not you may just have a private room with golf memorabilia and a couch to watch golf in peace, which isn’t too shabby either.
Here is a look at PGA Pro Kevin Streelman’s simulator is his personal golf Man Cave:

Golf Memorabilia
Every man cave has a theme, and in this case, golf should front and center. It’s a nice touch having some quality memorabilia around you to enhance the theme and motivate you to become a better golfer. Perhaps it’s that lucky ball you wrote “EAGLE” on with a sharpie or the hat you had signed by Tiger and Phil. Whatever it is make sure you display your personal golf trophies prominently.
Not only will the memorabilia provide some quality décor, it will also help create that ‘clubhouse’ feel inside of your cave. We’ve seen guys go as far as to build lockers or even have an unofficial green jacket on a mannequin. Some hang posters of Jack and Tiger celebrating a monumental victory while others hang hats on the wall. The ideas are endless when it comes to ‘pimping-out’ your man cave and if your walls are looking a little sparce you can score some great memorabilia on Amazon for very reasonable prices.
This is also a good place to put all of those fun little ‘bragging rights’ trophies you’ve won at outings like closest-to-the-pin or longest drive.
Beverage Fridge
Golf and a good beverage (plus possibly a cigar) go together like Sid and Nancy. Whether it’s an ice cold beer or a bottle of water or Gatorade for those rounds when it’s a little too early to have a more serious drink, having a fridge adds a nice amenity to the room.
When your golf buddies come by with a few 6-packs and some pizzas, it’s convenient to keep the drinks cold within arms reach. Although it’s certainly not necessary, having a refrigerator or mini-fridge in your golf man cage a cool feature to have and you can buy a sleek glass-front unit online or from your local appliance center for less than around 200 bucks.
Putting Green
If the space allows it, a putting green is a nice addition to any man cave. Some even opt for the putting green over the simulator simply because of costs and the lack of ceiling height. If ceiling height is an issue for you then a nice flat-screen TV to take the place of the simulator with some couches and a decent putting green still makes for a truly entertaining space.
Another good reason to have one is mere fact that putting represents about 40% of your shots on the course, so it might make sense find a nice space for some at-home practice in this area of your game. Both Golfsmith and Amazon have some excellent quality greens for both indoor and outdoor use. We particularly like the quality of the Big Moss Augusta Green, but you can score some smaller ones for half the cost, or if you’re really ambitious you can go the DIY route and build a custom putting green to fit any space.
Chipping Nets and Pads
Again, if you opt to not buy a simulator, a nice addition to the putting green idea would be a quality chipping net. Short game practice is the key to scoring better on the course and with a nice piece of turf and a quality net; you can still have a cool looking (and functional) golf man cave in your home. Keep it simple with something like the Birdieball or any standard $20-$40 chipping net, none of which will break the bank. You can also get away with putting your indoor green against a wall and padding the wall behind it. Just be sure to get a nice dual-turf mat with low cut and high cut “grass” so that you don’t damage your floors.
