WATCH: Paul Casey Gets Testy with Annoying Fan at WGC-Dell Match Play
Paul Casey made it very apparent this weekend that he is not a fan of spectators messing around during his backswing.
Casey, who ultimately didn’t make it past the group stage of the tournament, was captured on video, telling a fan to “shut it”, after he felt his shot was interrupted. His caddie also echoed Casey’s plea for silence during his shot.
Though it’s not immediately clear as to what the fan did to set Casey off, an instagram video shows Casey clearly shouting at the fan, who he’d apparently already asked to be quiet at least once before.

Some may feel that Casey’s reaction was a bit unnecessary, but in fairness, as mentioned above, he had asked nicely before. When asking in a constrained manner didn’t work, Casey chose to be more assertive, which ultimately proved to be effective, as the fan didn’t seem to be heard from again. Whether right or wrong, it happened, and was caught on video for the world to judge.
While it may not be the best look for Casey to be caught on video yelling at a fan, it’s a good reminder that professional golfers deserve respect. Whether or not the fan intended to get on Casey’s nerves, is unknown. However, it’s important to remember that watching golf is a privilege, and if you’re going to act in an uncivilized or disrespectful way, that privilege can be revoked.
