TRENDING: Patrick Reed Snubs Sponsor at U.S. Open
It’s not really much of a secret, but sponsorships are a BIG revenue stream for pro athletes. That’s why it’s so rare in golf to see guys, like Brooks Koepka, hold out and not affiliate with a particular OEM.
Which is why it’s particularly noteworthy when an athlete snubs a sponsor.

Earlier this year shortly before The Masters, up and coming British premium apparel company Castore Sportswear announced that 2018 Masters Champion Patrick Reed would be joining the team. Confusingly, however, Patrick Reed has been spotted in apparel from other manufacturers, including G/FORE—which Reed was frequently spotted in before announcing the Castore partnership.
While Reed is no stranger to controversy, it usually pertains to some questionable play. Naturally, no one knows the intimate details of the alliance between Reed and Castore, but you have to ask yourself that if you sponsored a pro athlete, would you be thrilled if you saw him using a competitor’s product? And how would you handle it?
