Tour pros have a whole host of shots in their arsenal. From swinging off the opposite side to shaping shots around obstacles, tournaments test the creativity of every player.

Rarely does a shot as audacious as the backward flop shot come into play, but that was the case today for Spaniard Santaigo Tarrio in the final round of the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship.

On 17, he found himself in an awkward spot in the bunker about 60 feet from the pin.

What followed was an incredible piece of skill to land it just shy of 7 feet from the hole.

No article on the backward flop shot would be complete without a little look back at the OG of the backward flop shot. Here’s Phil Mickelson’s attempt during a tournament in 1995.

Tarrio ended up missing the putt to make bogey and finish with a forgettable +3 round of 75 to finish in a tie for 68, but this round is worth remembering for this shot alone.

Have you ever tried this shot before?
