Rory McIlroy has been very vocal about Phil Mickelson’s comments toward the PGA TOUR and Saudi Golf League but his tone towards it has changed.

On Wednesday McIlroy told Rex Hoggard of Golf Channel:
“We all make mistakes. We all say things we want to take back. No one is different in that regard. But we should be allowed to make mistakes, and we should be allowed to ask for forgiveness and for people to forgive us and move on.
I think Phil has been a wonderful ambassador for the game of golf, still is a wonderful ambassador for the game of golf.
It’s unfortunate that a few comments that he thought he was making in confidence or off the record got out there and – not used against him, but this whole situation is unfortunate.”
Rory: “Phil will be back… the players want to see him back. We all make mistakes. We all say things we want to take back. No one is different in that regard. But we should be allowed to make mistakes, be allowed to ask for forgiveness & for people to forgive us & move on.” pic.twitter.com/m3YRVsue1D

It’s good to see McIlroy changed his tone on Mickelson’s comments. Everyone makes mistakes and if Phil wants to return to the PGA TOUR he should be welcomed with open arms. After all, he is one of the greatest players in the history of the game of golf.
If/when that return does come Mickelson is going to need his fellow players to support him and make him feel comfortable because we know that the business side of the Tour won’t be on his side.
What do you think of Rory’s comments?
