Animal Hole Causes Unlucky Ruling On The PGA TOUR

Dylan Frittelli, PGA Tour player, caught a horrible break on the Par 5, 17th hole at TPC Deere Run. Dylan hit an errant tee shot left of the fairway that rested up against the base of the tree.

However, the tree wasn’t the issue in Frittelli’s perspective; he was discussing a possible animal hole that his ball had settled in that would merit free relief. 

Frittelli didn’t get the result he wanted and had to take an unplayable lie resulting in a penalty which ultimately led to a double bogey. I consulted a popular social media page @golfrules_questions for further insight.

This golf rule is as described in the screenshot below for a situation like this one.

Though the 2019 John Deere Classic winner was not pleased with the bad break, he rebounded nicely on his second 9 holes of the day as he started on hole 10 turning in a -1, 70. He is currently at -6 under through 2 rounds. 

This gets him comfortably inside the cut line which is currently set at -3.
