Success at the Pro-Am – Scottish Open Around the Corner

The Adare Manor has just hosted the JP McManus Pro-Am, returning to the roster for the first time in twelve years. The field included 10 of the top 12 players in the world, and all eyes turned to Tiger as he made an appearance for the event.

Fresh off a win at the Travelers Championship, in which he capitalized on a final-hole error by Sahith Theegala, Xander Schauffele has promptly obtained another trophy to add to the silverware cabinet. With 11 birdies in 36 holes, and a sole bogey, his 64-70 ten under par total was enough for the win in the strokeplay side of the Pro-Am.

The Scottish Open starts tomorrow, with all the participants traveling up to North Berwick in full links-golf mode. The wind has been swirling and World #1 Scottie Scheffler has rarely been seen out of his bobble hat and multiple layers, a classic British golf look, even in July.

I like the look of Justin Thomas again for the Scottish Open, if he finds his groove on the links and sets a lead early, he is difficult to reel in. Rob MacIntyre has been quiet of late, but always puts on a show in links conditions, and will be flying the flag for Scotland.

The Renaissance Club plays host to the Genesis Scottish Open amidst huge controversy regarding the field, who is in, who can play, and who cannot. Comparisons were made last week of the LIV field against the John Deere Classic, where LIV had multiple major champions and appeared stronger on paper, showing that they are here to stay and can match some of the smaller PGA or DP World Tour fields.

However, this week (and next) won’t even be close. The Scottish Open field boasts the four current Major Champions, in Fitzpatrick, Justin Thomas, Scheffler, and Collin Morikawa. Xander Schauffele will be looking to continue his fine run of golf, closely followed by the usual crowd of high-caliber golfers.
