Tiger Woods: ‘LIV Golfers Turned Their Back’ on PGA Tour

Up until this point, Rory McIlroy has been the most outspoken PGA Tour star to rail against the upstart LIV Golf Series, but now, the world’s most influential golfer has weighed in.

Speaking at a press conference ahead of the Open Championship at St. Andrews on Tuesday, Tiger Woods didn’t mince words over what he thought of the new league.

“I disagree with it,” Woods said of the high-profile golfers that have joined the new circuit. “I think that what they’ve done is they’ve turned their back on what has allowed them to get in this position.”

Speaking of Greg Norman, the face of the LIV group, Woods said, “Greg has done some things that I don’t think is in the best interest of our game.”

The three-time Open Championship winner also said that it would be unfortunate if golfers who choose LIV are unable to play in majors moving forward. Golfers like Dustin Johnson, Bryson DeChambeau, and Phil Mickelson are doing so now on a tournament-by-tournament basis, but whether LIV is able to have Official World Golf Ranking points accumulated for their events could be the determining factor moving forward.

“Some of these players may not ever get a chance to play in major championships. …never get a chance to experience this right here, walk down the fairways at Augusta National. That, to me, I just don’t understand it.”

Meanwhile, Woods spent Monday as part of the “Celebration of Champions” that took place on the Old Course in connection to the 150^th Open, and this legendary picture was snapped during the proceedings.
