Cam Smith 2022 Open Championship WITB, Including Titleist TSR
After putting himself in contention in several of the past Majors, including a 2nd place finish at the 2020 Masters, Cameron Smith finally has secured victory at one of golf’s most coveted events while playing one of golf’s most historic courses: the Old Course.
While the conditions were fairly tame this week, the Old Course still demands precision on every shot to ensure you’re avoiding bunkers and getting close to pins on the monstrous greens. Add in that Cam Smith also needed to overcome a four-shot deficit to raise the Claret Jug, and it’s clear he had the game and tools to achieve an impressive feat.

So the immediate question becomes what did Cam have in the bag to help power him through 72 holes of Major championship golf that contributed to a finishing 20-under score?

Starting at the top is the all-new Titleist TSR2 driver with a Fujikura Ventus TR Blue 6 X shaft. Notably, Cam put his trust in the TSR lineup that only recently was released and is still in the Tour-validation phase. Despite the TSR’s only just coming to light, it’s already proven to be an accomplished evolution of the TSi (and will likely rack up a few more wins before it becomes available to the masses).
Further complementing Cam’s TSR driver is the TSi2 3-wood with a Fujikura Ventus TR Blue 8 X shaft and Mizuno Pro Hi-Fli 3-iron. Driving irons were particularly popular this week with the links conditions. The lower-flight option made sure that competitors could stay out of the wind and still advance the ball.

As for Cam’s scoring clubs, his signature black finish Titleist T100s (5-9) paired with KBS Tour 130 X Custom Matte Black shafts and SM9 and WedgeWorks (also featuring a “murdered-out” black finish) Vokey wedges made sure he was in position to put the flat stick to work. Like many golfers this week, Cam went with lower bounce options that paired well with the firmer conditions.

Rounding out Cam’s bag is a Scotty Cameron 009M that rolled the Pro V1x a record 253 feet of putts made, an unofficial PGA Tour record for one round during the second round of the 150th Open Championship.
But Cam didn’t just have the right equipment this week. Indeed, to win like a champion, you also need to look the part. And Original Penguin helped make sure Cam looked good while feeling comfortable all weekend.

During the Open, Cam wore Original Penguin’s golf collection polos featuring its new Re-Originals sustainable fabrication. The eco-friendly polos, including the Bunker Print Golf Polo and Retro Geo Print Golf Polo, are crafted with 30% recycled polyester and use a double-knit high-gauge fabrication for superior performance and aesthetics. Cam’s looks were completed with the FootJoy Premiere Series Packard golf shoes–which have also been spotted in recent on another Major winner’s feet, Tiger Woods–and a FootJoy StaSof glove.
