In the first stages of the LIV season finale in Miami, the golfers were paired off, head to head, in matchplay format, with each LIV team competing for 3 points.

Cam Smith (Punch GC) was paired against Phil Mickelson (HyFlyers). A spirited comeback by Phil saw them all square going down their final hole, the par 5 8th – Smith clawing a birdie to win 1 up.

Smith was quizzed about the battle and said there were examples of ‘gamesmanship’ from Mickelson and that “he seemed to take forever.” Smith added that they were three or four holes behind pace, which defeats the point of the shotgun start.

The event continues today, with eight teams remaining to fight for the $50 million purse at Trump Doral’s Blue Monster.
