Pat Perez Goes in on Tiger Woods For Comments About LIV Golf
Pat Perez has probably been in more headlines this year than all the previous years combined.
2022 has seen him storm into the 4 Aces team as part of the LIV Tour, play very average golf with some highs and some lows, and pocket nearly eight figures for his work, as well as an upfront signing bonus of a similar financial region.
On the ‘Son of a Butch’ podcast hosted by Claude Harmon this week, the conversation moved to Tiger Wood’s comments made at the Open Championship in July.
“What is the incentive to go out there and earn it in the dirt? You’re just getting paid a lot of money upfront and playing a few events and playing 54 holes. They’re playing blaring music and have all these atmospheres that are different.”
Perez’s response was swift and committed: “That’s the stupidest sh*t I ever heard in my life.”
Perez chose to explain that the incentive was in the chase for $4,000,000. Rather than taking it easy and accepting the final place paycheck, he suggested that every member of the LIV Tour is chasing the top spot because ‘you can’t win $4 million on the PGA Tour.’
It is true that Tiger had a lot of guarantees up front, including a record-shattering Nike deal fresh out of college. Perez also took personal stabs at Tiger, suggesting that he ever played in the smaller PGA Tour events, mainly focusing on WGC and the Majors.

Although Perez’s over-arching point will be lost in the snappy initial comment above, it does make some sense and is easier to digest when considering Tiger’s start to the game compared to other professional golfers – financial security from the off.
In terms of ‘one of the stupidest things he has ever said,’ it may not be true and won’t do Perez any favors in terms of making friends of gaining respect out there on Tour; going against Tiger usually doesn’t end well.
I think the main disagreement with the outspoken LIV Tour pros is short-sightedness – rather than the source of the money or the no-cut events, the ability of LIV to destroy the Ryder Cup and the field in Majors going forward definitely remains one of the main concerns for golf-lovers like Tiger Woods and so many of his fans.
