Jordan, Tyson, Norman? David Feherty Makes Interesting Claim on LIV Golf CEO
After jumping to LIV Golf’s announce team, David Feherty said that he had one goal for the 2023 telecasts: piss off at least one viewer per week.
Safe to say, he’s 1-for-1 after LIV’s event at Mayakoba in Mexico over the weekend.
During Sunday’s final round, Feherty likely made a good impression with his boss, Greg Norman, while achieving his earlier-stated goal.
Catching up on the @livgolf_league broadcast (no spoilers!) against my doctor’s orders. I was rewarded with Feherty saying Greg Norman changed the game and was probably the most recognizable athlete on the planet in the 80s and 90s. Gotta feed the Commishes ego! pic.twitter.com/BO7VjiGxwe

Feherty said of LIV Golf’s CEO:
“He changed the game, that man [Norman] did. Back in the ‘80s and ‘90s, probably the most recognizable athlete on the planet.”
While the “Shark” was certainly a big part of the sports landscape of those decades, especially in his home country of Australia, you could probably make a case for the likes of Michael Jordan, Mike Tyson, Joe Montana, Wayne Gretzky, Carl Lewis, Martina Navratilova, among several others. From his own sport, Jack Nicklaus, Nick Faldo, and even Tiger Woods by the late ‘90s would like a word.

Also, remember that Feherty’s job is likely to draw attention to LIV Golf. Given Saturday’s overnight television ratings for the series debut on the CW Network, his comments on Sunday have likely helped.
As for the former NBC golf commentator, don’t expect this to be the last we hear of him this year.
Feherty told Golf Digest about his five-year deal with LIV Golf
“I felt I couldn’t say what I was thinking for fear someone, somewhere would be offended. Also, the money was terrific. My goal is to piss off at least one viewer per week, but I’m hoping for more.”
We’ll see what Feherty cooks up during LIV’s next event, which is on St. Patrick’s Day weekend in Tucson, Arizona.
