Did Freddy Couples Just Leak Ryder Cup Captain’s Picks??
Did Freddy Couples just leak Ryder Cup Captain’s Picks? It seems that he did.
There has been heavy speculation on who would be the most ideal Captain’s Picks for Zack Johnson ahead of his inaugural campaign as the USA’s Ryder Cup Captain.
Standings currently have Scottie Scheffler, Wyndham Clark, Brian Harman, Brooks Koepka, Xander Schauffele, and Patrick Cantlay owning the top six spots.
However, there are a number of names outside those top six that would be great additions to the team, but they are ultimately up to ZJ or whether those names can play well enough to earn a spot on the team without needing the graces of the Captain.
Freddy basically confirmed that Max Homa, Cameron Young, and Jordan Spieth will all be in Rome to play on the Ryder Cup team:
“I’ll say Max Homa’s gonna be in Italy, without getting anyone in trouble…. Cam Young will be in Italy….“Jordan Spieth?” …Will be in Italy.”
Meanwhile, there are a few other names that came up in conversation during the interview on SiriusXM PGA Tour Radio, including Keegan Bradley and Justin Thomas.
Keegan Bradley captured a win this year and sits eighth in FedEx Cup Point Standings.
However, Freddy “stopped shy” of confirming that he would be in Italy to help the Americans capture what would be their first Ryder Cup on European soil since 1993.
There is also some belief from Couples that Justin Thomas, who has struggled as of late, will be on the team as the Ryder Cup nears.
However, JT is going to have to prove his worth, and while he has been a mainstay, a second gear, and a source of inspiration for the Americans in the past few Ryder Cups, it appears he may have plenty of an uphill climb to even make the team at this point.
This is due to his play, which has been uncharacteristically sub-par this year.

Couples said:
“I’m glad he’s playing this week….The whole world knows that JT’s gotta go to, is it Minnesota, and then Greensboro? He’s gotta go to those places and play well.”
The 2023 Ryder Cup kicks off on September 29 and ends on October 1, and will be played at the Marco Simone Golf & Country Club in Rome, Italy.
