Rory and Rahm Confirmed for Rome 2023 – Who Else Makes the Team?
Team Europe has just confirmed the additions of Rory McIlroy and Jon Rahm to the Ryder Cup squad in Rome.
Although no surprise to golf fans due to the automatic selection, the presence of Europe’s two most decorated players is a must if they are to succeed on home soil this time around.

Rory is making his seventh Ryder Cup appearance, looking to win his fourth. He made his first appearance back in 2010 at Celtic Manor. Rory currently tops the European points list.
Jon Rahm tees it up for the third time in European colors, his first appearance back in 2018 at Le Golf National – famously taking Tiger down 2&1 in the singles.
The new qualification process means that Luke Donald’s team is half-filled automatically. The top three on the World Points list and the top three on the European Points List (adjusting for any overlaps between the two) – make the team.
You’d think Matt Fitzpatrick, Sepp Straka, and Shane Lowry would be picked on form this season so far. Justin Rose has been featured in several tournaments but could carry out more of a vice-captain role.
With six Captain’s picks still up for grabs, this provides inspiration for those still vying for a spot, like Germany’s Stephan Jaeger and new superstar Ludvig Aberg.
Rory and Rahm are booked in for Italy. The rest of the squads hang in the balance on both sides of the Atlantic.
