Phil Mickelson will be forced to replace his caddie ahead of the next LIV Golf event, as his brother, Tim Mickelson, has decided to retire.

Mickelson will have an easy time finding a new caddie, but establishing the same bond that he had with his brother Tim will be much harder.

Phil took to X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, to discuss his brother Tim’s decision:

“I’ve had some great accomplishments in my career and getting to share them with my brother Tim has been beyond special. I’m very lucky to have had him on the bag for me the past eight years and as my brother for life.”

Tim replaced Jim ‘Bones’ Mackay, who is currently Justin Thomas’s caddie, in 2017. While Mickelson and Bones made some great memories together, perhaps none of them were as good as Phil’s triumph at the 2021 PGA Championship, where he became the oldest golfer to win a Major.

Phil talked more about his brother’s choice to retire, citing he has plenty of things to do outside of golf, and he plans to spend more time with his family:

“So much has changed since he was single and we started working together. He’s found his life partner, Maranda, they’ve had their second son, and hopefully their family will continue to grow. While Tim is retiring from caddying, I’ll always cherish the many great moments we’ve shared on the course and I look forward to many more special moments off the course too.”

Mickelson has reportedly hired Jon Yarbrough to be his new caddie. Yarbrough spent nearly ten years with Scott Stallings.
