Cam Smith was more than thankful for his switch to LIV Golf, and a recent interview showed the Aussie is “a much happier person” because of the switch.

Smith left LIV Golf a few seasons ago, citing more freedom to return to his native Australia and a more flexible schedule.

In a recent interview with the Herald Sun, he said that moving to LIV was “the best decision of his life”:

“It was the best decision of my life. Not only from where [LIV Golf] is going and where it will end up but also from a life standpoint as well. The extra time I get to spend in Australia compared to what I used to means a lot. I feel like I am a much happier person now compared to where I was before.”

Smith is still a top player, only missing one cut at Major Championships since winning at St. Andrews in July 2022. His team, Ripper GC, also won the LIV Golf Team Championship just one month ago.

He has highlighted how going back to Australia for tournaments has been a huge advantage:

“I think for me, having an event in Adelaide this year, and we’re going back there next year. That was so much fun. It was fun to play in front of the home crowd, and it’s also really nice to have an off-season at home in Australia as well. It’s something I haven’t been able to do for a long time. So, no complaints here.”

Smith’s Golf Digest feature from 2022 showed he truly struggled with his newfound success and having to be across the globe to utilize it:

“Smith was homesick during his first two years on the PGA Tour. After Chambers Bay, he didn’t register a top 10 the next season and had to win his card back through the Korn Ferry finals. ‘For the first couple of months on the PGA Tour, we didn’t really go inside the locker room,’ Pinfold says. ‘Cam was quite shy to use those facilities. We’d often just keep balls and gloves in the car and go straight to the range.’”

LIV has enabled Smith to have that freedom and flexibility. It’s been a big thing for him, and we’re happy to hear it.
