FootJoy’s new HyperFlex: The Foundation of Every Great Golf Swing

FootJoy’s reputation as the premiere offering for golf footwear has been solidified with its tagline: the #1 Shoe in Golf. That’s not just a catchphrase, either, it’s true: the brand has been the #1 Shoe on the PGA TOUR for 80 consecutive years.

Its ability to stay at the top of the game has been set into stone by its constant and tireless efforts to create what is the best product any manufacturer can offer, consistently breaking boundaries, and using tech that the industry has not seen to create a solid base for any golf swing.

The proof is in the pudding, or in this case, the HyperFlex.

FootJoy’s most recent offering, the new HyperFlex lineup, features new and radical updates that have truly broken the walls of what is considered typical for the brand in general. The changes are so drastic and effective, they steered Justin Thomas, someone who has played the Modern Classics like the Traditions or Premiere series for the entirety of his Junior, College, and Professional career, to switch to the new HyperFlex:

“I’ve worn a classic, structured shoe for pretty much my entire career – Classics, Icon, Premiere, etc. – but I had to make a switch when I tried this HyperFlex. This shoe is perfect – super comfortable and flexible in the right areas, but also gives me all the support I need to make a strong, confident move on the ball.” – Justin Thomas

What the HyperFlex Offers

The HyperFlex offers things every golfer needs on the course: Comfort, Stability and Traction, and Flexibility.

Here’s how it brings all three to one product:

Comfort

Utilizing FJ’s StratoFOAM for cushioning, comfort, and support, the HyperFlex is among the most complete shoes in golf. The midsole has a blend of cushioning that focuses on absorbing shock and maximizing energy return.

This is something you might not notice while it’s on your feet in the middle of the round, but your knees and soles will thank you at the tailend of your day.

In addition to the StratoFOAM system, FJ’s TruFIT system keeps things secure-but-flexible, helping you feel locked in to a great shoe.

Traction

FJ employs an OptiFlex outsole design that increases stability and keeps your focus on the ball and your swing instead of whether you’ll be slipping and sliding on the tee box. Perhaps the most troublesome thing other shoes fail to offer is sufficient traction and stability, a focus that some OEMs have truly honed in on for 2025 launches.

The HyperFlex achieves this with LP Pulsar cleats for additional traction. It’s best to have too much instead of not enough. These cleats help target omni-directional swing forces throughout the swing.

Flexibility and Unlimited Power

Traction and flexibility go hand-in-hand with a golf shoe, and there is a fine line to play with when developing what could be the sweet spot. Too much flexibility decreases overall support. Too much traction can limit overall range of motion and hurt your game in every facet.

The HyperFlex features a new outsole PowerPlate that transfers energy to the ground to maximize speed, resisting twisting through the golf swing. In typical fashion, the shoe also features the TPU Saddle, which has been seen on past models. This helps to harness any top of foot movement and transfers it back into the ground.

It doesn’t stop there. The HyperFlex Carbon model will also feature a molded carbon fiber power plate that delivers Tour-level stability.

Dan Buonomo, Product Manager for FJ Footwear, said:

“We wanted to ensure that Hyperflex represented the pinnacle expression in athletic golf performance. Our focus remains on the discerning golfer and understanding what their needs are from a styling, comfort and golf specific performance perspective, which you’ll see in the new HyperFlex.”
