Awkward! Patrick Cantlay Caught Snubbing Young Fans
A new clip from the TOUR Championship at East Lake has emerged, showing Patrick Cantlay snubbing a handful of young fans from getting a high-five from the multiple-time winner on the PGA TOUR.
We recently dove into Cantlay, who has been criticized in the past for his lack of personality and absolutely brutal pace of play. He has been a target of these criticisms for many years, and it continued this past weekend.
A video of him walking to the first tee on Sunday showed Cantlay ignoring a bunch of kids who were looking for a high-five, literally the lowest level of acknowledgement a pro athlete can give a fan:

Cantlay’s demeanour, not only during rounds, but also before and after them, has been a major point of criticism for him most of his career. He is less than thrilled with basically anything, and even as Keegan Bradley called him to tell him he made the U.S. Ryder Cup team, he was less than enthusiastic.
“Sam showed a lot of emotion, which I appreciated. Pat didn’t give me any emotion…”

We see players make time for the fans constantly, but Cantlay has been someone who has always followed his own rules. Although a simple high-five can go a long way for a young fan, he must see them as a potential future rival, keeping him from becoming friends with basically anyone involved in the game.
Cantlay has had a successful career and has recently returned to form on TOUR, but he still has not been able to crack too much of a smile. Perhaps if he can contribute to a triumph over the Europeans in September, we will see the kid from Long Beach show some joy.
