Nike Set to Announce Rory McIlroy 10 Year Sponsorship Deal
Next week Nike Golf president Cindy Davis will be holding press conference to introduce the world to the company’s newest addition, Rory McIlroy. With this deal McIlroy will be leaving Titleist to join the same company that has sponsored Tiger Woods from head to toe for years.
The expected deal is rumored to be a 10-year sponsorship for £156 million and will result in McIlroy severing his long time partnership with Jumeirah. The global luxury hotel group signed Rory at age 18, and was one of his first sponsors. Rory commented, “Jumeirah became my first corporate sponsor when I turned professional back in 2007, and I would like to thank everyone at the company for their support in helping me become the player I am today.”
Likewise, Titleist and Oakley also ended relationships with the 23 year old phenom late in 2012. With this addition, Nike will have the rights to the top 2 World Ranked golfers on TOUR. Looks like Rory has all new clubs, balls, and other “swoosh” embroidered apparel to don on TOUR this season. With a pay day like this, it must feel good to be No. 1.
