Frustrations of a Stir Crazy Golfer in Winter

So, here it goes…

I’m dyin’ here! The temps in my neck o’ the woods have plummeted, fast on the heels of summer.

Where did autumn go?

Recently, I penned an article discussing winter training, but I have to be honest — I can only take so much.

I really don’t mind playing in the cold. I tend to think of these frigid outings as practice rounds (unless I shoot a good score), but that doesn’t mean the local courses feel the same as I do.

There are a few courses that open up on winter days, but with a few restrictions — only after a certain time, only above a particular temperature, etc. When milder weather rolls around, it’s a mad scramble to get a tee time. I don’t mind abiding by some restrictions, if it means that I get to play a round of golf. “Cart Path Only” days don’t really bother me, and my son once had a frozen water hazard save him a few strokes on a scorecard.

I know I could be out in my backyard chipping and tearing up my lawn or in the common green space area maintained by our neighborhood association, but when temperatures go from 60 degrees one week to an 18 degree windchill in a few days, I don’t think this aging body can still adapt that fast.

I may just have to bite the bullet, bundle up, and braves the elements. Another problem I’m having is that the majority of my wardrobe in the pants department (almost every piece) is geared toward golf. These cold, blustery winds tear through the fabric of golf pants like a sneeze through cheap tissue paper.

So, I guess I’ll have to resolve myself to using my training aids indoors.

It’s gonna be ok…The Tournament of Champions in Kapalua is less than a month away.

I’m open to any ideas on what you do to keep your skills in tune.
