John Daly to Use New Vertical Groove Driver

John Daly has never been afraid to get creative and do some things that can be described as out of the norm.  Now one of the biggest characters in the world of golf is going outside the box again this PGA TOUR season, as he will be using a new, unique driver in all of his events this season.

The new driver that Daly will be using this season is one that has never been seen before in the world of golf.  What makes Daly’s new driver so unique is that it features vertical grooves, as opposed to the traditional horizontal grooves.  Daly recently signed on to use this club throughout all of his events and to sponsor its brand, Vertical Groove Golf, LLC, by wearing their logo on his collar and on his golf bag.

According to the manufacturer, the intention of the vertical groove design is that it will increase a golfer’s accuracy on their drive.  According to their study, Vertical Groove Golf found that the vertical grooves lead to a 40% straighter flight path.  This seems to make Daly a perfect test subject for the club because “Long” John has never had a problem hitting the ball a long way but his accuracy hasn’t always been the best.

Here’s a further explanation of the club’s concept from the manufacturer:

Vertical Groove Golf is happy to have Daly as their ambassador for the new design and Jeff Barry, the company’s CEO, said in a statement that having Daly use their driver is a “strong validation that this club performs at the highest level.”  He also added that “This is an exciting time for Vertical Groove Golf, and it’s only fitting that John Daly leads our stable of endorsees.”

Daly has been a strong supporter of the new driver and claims that he has hit more fairways with the Vertical Groove driver than he ever has in the past with more traditional equipment.  He even posted a video on social media touting the new driver’s technology and how excited he is to use the product on the PGA TOUR.

It sounds like the new Vertical Groove driver has potential to improve the colorful Tour veteran’s driving accuracy while maintaining his power but it remains to be seen if that will translate into more competitive play from the two-time major champion.
