Martin Kaymer Comes to Tiger Woods Defense Over Recent Criticism

The usually soft-spoken German tweeted a short video yesterday defending Tiger Woods from the bashing he’s been taking since his DUI.

In the video, he explains how he felt compelled to say something after reading and hearing so many of the brutal comments made about Tiger.

“Everybody who was involved in golf was changed by his legacy, by his play, so many things he has done. He inspired kids, teenagers. He inspired kind of like all of us.”

Kaymer gets into what’s really behind the tearing down of a superstar for so many people.

“At the end of the day, you are just using someone else for your own sadness.”

This isn’t to dismiss Tiger’s personal issues. This isn’t to dismiss any of his past, present, or future sins. And just as it seems the golf world has moved on from Dustin Johnson’s multiple off course issues, I would hope the same will happen for Tiger.

Kaymer goes on to ask those in the golf world to step up and return the favor. To help and inspire Tiger the way he did for us and them.

“Why don’t you try to do the opposite and try to help him now. The way he inspired us. That’s why we are where we are now. That’s why we can have what we have.”

Quite simply, whether you like him or not, golf is better with Tiger Woods than without. For everyone, yes, but especially for those that make a living covering or playing the game.

Finally, in a very Martin Kaymer way, he lays it out very simply.

“Just stop being so nasty.”
