The golf world has been expanding rapidly over the last year, with a variety of new audiences being introduced to the game in new ways. And with their most recent venture, the Golf Channel, powered by NBC Sports is tapping into yet another audience.

It was announced that the Golf Channel has acquired Revolution Golf, the industry’s largest direct-to-consumer digital platform. Revolution Golf is known for its digital work that produces top quality instructional videos as well as travel tips. The company also has an integrated e-commerce system that Golf Channel will now be able to tap in to.

The acquisition of Revolution Golf adds to a new digital platform that Golf Channel has been building over the past couple years. NBC and the Golf Channel have also acquired GolfNow, the best digital partner to book tee times, as well as GolfAdvisor, which is the industry’s best site for course ratings and reviews. Adding Revolution Golf to these two ventures now expands Golf Channel’s digital presence by 15 million golfers.

“Our thinking at that time was — any time a golfer is trying to connect with the game of golf, with their passion, how can we get involved in facilitating that relationship? GolfNow essentially became lightning in a bottle and took off.” Will McIntosh, the senior VP of business and strategy for Golf Channel stated in an interview. “But in the back of our minds, we were always thinking about other ways that golfers are connected with the game.”

While this is obviously a good move for Golf Channel, Revolution Golf will also be benefiting from the deal with Golf Channel. For one, Revolution Golf will be able to expand its already vast video library for instruction by tapping into videos featuring Bobby Jones, Ben Hogan, Jack Nicklaus and Phil Mickelson among others. This comes with the obvious exposure that the company gets.

With this deal being finalized, the golf industry will continue to expand into the more digital platform it has been looking for and only time will tell if it will attract more fans and revolutionize the game of golf.
