The PGA TOUR schedule will be in store for a huge shakeup once the 2019 season begins. On top of the changes that have already been announced for the schedule, another anomaly will be taking place at the end of the season.

It was announced on Monday that the Presidents Cup will be taking a step back on the calendar, moving from its typical fall spot to the middle of December. This will put the competition a full month after the event typically takes place. The reason for the move comes because of the location that the Presidents Cup will be played.

In 2015, the PGA TOUR announced that the 2019 competition would be played in the land down under, with the Australian course Royal Melbourne hosting the event. And while December is the coldest time of year in the United States, this is actually the middle of the Australian summer, making the decision look more logical. Still, November would seem the ideal time for the event but Australia will be holding the Australian Open and Australian PGA Championship at that time.

The PGA TOUR isn’t too concerned with the schedule change, however. “Australia has proved to be an incredible host for the Presidents Cup in the past,” said PGA TOUR executive director Matt Kamienski. “We expect nothing short of the first-class hospitality and welcoming culture that our fans, players, their families, our guests and our staff have received in each of our previous two events in Melbourne.”

Moving the Presidents Cup back to December is just one of many schedule changes coming for the PGA TOUR in 2019 and in the grand scheme of things, looks like a minor change. 2019 is also the year that THE PLAYERS Championship will be moved to March and the PGA Championship will become the second major of the year, being played in May.

While this schedule is something to be thinking about, the Presidents Cup of 2017 is still set to take place here in the U.S. and should be good competition. Hopefully, the U.S. will be able to enter 2019 is the defending champions.
