Alligator and Python Battle on Course in Florida

Wildlife is certainly something that most golfers are used to seeing on the course whether it be deer, squirrels, birds and even the occasional alligator if you’re down south. But the battle that took place on a course this weekend was certainly something to behold.

There was a big log jam at the Fiddler’s Creek Golf Club on Friday once many golfers stopped to see an interesting sight that was taking place on the 10th hole. It had nothing to do with golf at all, more like wrestling if you want to relate it to any sport. There on the green, was a heavyweight battle between an alligator and a python.

Two of the most dangerous animals in the state of Florida were locked in a battle that was kind of a David vs. Goliath match. Unfortunately for the python, Goliath won the bought rather easily. After killing the python, the gator stayed on the green with the python’s head in its mouth, a sight that almost everyone walking to took a picture or video of.

One golfer was a little late to the party but posted many pictures of the incident that have since gone viral all over social media. “They were absolutely still,” Dr. Richard Nadler said. “There was no grappling going on — nothing. The python’s head was in the mouth of the alligator and the alligator was just sitting there absolutely still with his eyes wide open not moving. And he had all these people around him, these golf carts and people walking around taking photographs.”

Last year was a season full of alligators invading golf courses around the country. There was a 20 ft. monster that made its way across the greens in South Carolina and there was Cody Gribble who approached a gator in the fairway during the Arnold Palmer Invitational that he pushed back into the water. So far, the wildlife seems to be back for the 2018 season.

While this was undoubtedly a cool thing to experience in person, the dangers surrounding both of these animals is very real. So next time you’re on the course, make sure that you pay close attention to your surrounds and stay safe at all times.
